From Phoenix take the Superstition
Freeway U.S. 60 to Globe and Miami, old historic mining towns. Then continue

winding climbing roads. Many pull outs to enjoy the sites. Continue up into the
White Mountains for added sites.
Coronado Trail (Devils Hwy old 666)

must see for awesome scenery.
Arizona 89 (the classic road trip!)
For a scenic and nostalgic ride through
some Arizona history take Arizona 89. Take the Carefree Hwy from I-17, you’ll
catch 89 just south of Wickenburg. Heading north past Wickenburg you will climb
Yarnell Hill, continuing you will come into Prescott and famous Whiskey Row.
Take 89 through Prescott and take 89A cut off to Jerome, a former mining ghost
town. After touring Jerome take 260 south to I-17 and be home in half the time.
A must see and do road trip.
Catalina
Highway
Just north of Tucson, this highway climbs
30 miles up the Catalina Mountains. You will cross 5 climate zones from desert
floor to the top of Mt. Lemon. Awesome overlooks and towering columns of stone.
Best traveled in mid-week.
The back way to Flagstaff from Phoenix
From Tempe, Arizona take the Loop 101 north to
Loop 202 east and exit at State Route 87 (Country Club Dr/Beeline Hwy). Take SR
87 north to Payson, Arizona. Continue north on SR 87 through Pine, Strawberry and
Long Valley. Make a left turn at FH3 (Clint's Well) which is well marked and
head towards Mormon Lake, upper and lower Lake Mary and Flagstaff. The pines are
beautiful and the roads have been redone recently and makes for a good ride.
