Salt River Canyon
From Phoenix take the Superstition Freeway U.S. 60 to Globe and Miami, old historic mining towns. Then continue north to the first hairpin turn and you have entered the canyon. Nine miles of winding climbing roads. Many pull outs to enjoy the sites. Continue up into the White Mountains for added sites.

Coronado Trail (Devils Hwy old 666)
The Coronado Trail is full of steep drop offs and winding roads. Not for the weak hearted. Best as a 2 day trip. Go From Phoenix to Morencie to Springerville then to Showlow and back down to Phoenix. A must see for awesome scenery.

Arizona 89 (the classic road trip!)
For a scenic and nostalgic ride through some Arizona history take Arizona 89. Take the Carefree Hwy from I-17, you’ll catch 89 just south of Wickenburg. Heading north past Wickenburg you will climb Yarnell Hill, continuing you will come into Prescott and famous Whiskey Row. Take 89 through Prescott and take 89A cut off to Jerome, a former mining ghost town. After touring Jerome take 260 south to I-17 and be home in half the time. A must see and do road trip.

Catalina Highway
Just north of Tucson, this highway climbs 30 miles up the Catalina Mountains. You will cross 5 climate zones from desert floor to the top of Mt. Lemon. Awesome overlooks and towering columns of stone. Best traveled in mid-week.

The back way to Flagstaff from Phoenix
From Tempe, Arizona take the Loop 101 north to Loop 202 east and exit at State Route 87 (Country Club Dr/Beeline Hwy). Take SR 87 north to Payson, Arizona. Continue north on SR 87 through Pine, Strawberry and Long Valley. Make a left turn at FH3 (Clint's Well) which is well marked and head towards Mormon Lake, upper and lower Lake Mary and Flagstaff. The pines are beautiful and the roads have been redone recently and makes for a good ride.
